With Hannah and her husband enjoying the beauties of Ireland, I (Rachel) set off on Labor Day with a friend to continue this project.
Without further ado, here is the review of the first farm we visited:
Here we are, in 2016. Three years into this project, and we're half-way through (20 farms down, 20 to go - while Apple Hill also includes a number of Christmas Tree farms, wineries, and a day spa, we're not planning to include those locations in our project . . . at least, not yet). With Hannah and her husband enjoying the beauties of Ireland, I (Rachel) set off on Labor Day with a friend to continue this project. I was a little worried about going up on a holiday, but was pleasantly surprised - nothing was crowded (except High Hill), and the only traffic we hit was on our way out of Apple Hill into Placerville. I'm definitely making note of this for future years. We visited 5 new farms and 3 "old" ones (so be sure to check some previous reviews for "2016 updates"). Without further ado, here is the review of the first farm we visited: Pine O' Mine has been on our "to visit" list for some time now, but they're only open for a short period of time, and we've missed it every year. We arrived shortly after they opened, and got right to picking. In season were their Red Delicious and Golden Delicious apples, which were in abundant supply, and were only $1.50 lb (2016 price). While wandering through the site we came across a "kids only" area with some really fun looking tire swings. If adults were allowed, we would most definitely have taken advantage of this fun activity. The farm also features a lovely barn, and a few vendors, including at least one food vendor. Pine O' Mine was a great "you pick" spot, and is worth the visit.
